I see you used my “Book of Allah” for the newsletter but whats up with the editor making some of my words and points dissappear? I thought this was a democracy? But its all good though inshAllah. You guys did a great job on the newsletter mashAllah.
Ameen - The guidelines I gave the editors were to look for grammatical errors and spelling, so I apologize if one of them went further than that and changed your style of writing. I didn’t realize it was different from the original :(
Safia, I believed you asked shaykh Waleed a “question” regarding the role of Allah in worldly affairs, correct? (I heard the question but didn’t see the questioners face).
When I heard your “question”, the first thing that came to mind were deists (belief God created universe then abandoned it), and I think you might have been trying to distinguish between the correct Islamic ideology and deism. Allah ta’ala created us, but each one of our actions are a part of His creation. We make du’aa to Him constantly and He accepts our du’aa or grants us what is better. He descends each night (in a manner befitting His Majesty) to forgive our sins and to grant us what we earnestly desire. Nothing functions except by the Will of Allah: He sends the rain, etc.
In short, it Allah ta’ala has the greatest role in the universe (there is no comparison to be made). At any rate, I believe you can see my email address….so you are most welcome to email me there if need be. Note: I wrote “question” with quotion marks as you did own you couldn’t verbalize one :)
JazakAllah khair, that’s exactly what I was getting at! The first example that came to mind actually was Aristotle with his ‘Unmoved Mover’, the one who knocks down the first domino which then gets everything started, but doesn’t do anything after that first push. I was afraid that mentioning deism or any philosophies would run the risk of offending the shaykh, so I tried my best to explain what it was I was confused about, which we both know didn’t exactly work :)
What I was mostly concerned about was understanding human free will as it relates to Allah’s Will, and whether He can intervene and essentially “infringe” (for lack of a better word) or intervene on our free will. I wrote up my question that night and posted it on the forums, and all the responses I received were similar to how I’ve always understood it, so it may just be that I misunderstood what the shaykh said. Please post in that thread if you can give any insight, you seem to have figured out what I was talking about lol
Excellent, you’ve started a thread on the topic! I posted something today on the forums in response to a post you had made with which I had thoroughly disagreed :)
Alhamdulillah, it reminded I had made a post here and I think I might just post in the thread you started if I have something beneficial to add.
